Lara Croft is more than the first supermodel of the cyber age, gracing more than 200 magazine covers such as Time and the star of the upcoming movie Tomb Raider by Paramount Pictures. She's now th esubject of a two-pronged merchandising program: one for men (action figures and posters) and another for women (fashion).
The focus is on the women's program right now, with four new licensees: Jerry Leigh (Los Angeles) for fashion, Richard Walker (New York) for singlasses, A.D. Sutton (New York) for backpacks, and Plymouth (Radford, Va.) for back-to-school products. Other licensed deals are imminent. Merchandise should hit 30 to 60 before the film's June 15 release, says Nancy Bassett, vp worldwide sales, Viacom Consumer Products.
